By partnering with hundreds of nonprofits throughout the city, Robin Hood has been able to bring much-needed relief for nearly half a million people living throughout the five boroughs.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">In their 35 years of work, the organization has seen the city and its residents\u2019 resilience and fortitude through tragic events like September 11, Hurricane Sandy and, most recently, the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nptrust.org\/philanthropic-resources\/philanthropist\/covid-19-now-updated-insights-for-donors\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">COVID-19<\/a> pandemic.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The organization reinstated relief funds in early 2020 as COVID-19 began to shut down the city. In 2021, Robin Hood\u2019s Poverty Tracker reported that <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nptrust.org\/philanthropic-resources\/philanthropist\/direct-cash-giving-and-basic-income-a-primer-for-donors\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">direct cash assistance<\/a> provided through the CARES Act was <a href=\"https:\/\/www.robinhood.org\/new-robin-hood-report-finds-direct-cash-assistance-acted-as-a-lifeline-for-millions-of-new-yorkers-during-pandemic\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">a \u201clifeline\u201d to millions of New Yorkers<\/a> during the pandemic. Robin Hood itself provided New Yorkers with <a href=\"https:\/\/www.robinhood.org\/relief-effort\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">an additional $42 million in direct cash aid<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">With the help of donors, the organization <a href=\"https:\/\/robinhoodorg-wp-production.s3.amazonaws.com\/uploads\/2022\/08\/RHAR2021_FINAL_WEB.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">granted $171 million<\/a> to New York City organizations fighting poverty in 2021. <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nptrust.org\/benefits-of-donor-advised-funds\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Donor-advised funds (DAFs)<\/a> are an \u201cintegral part of Robin Hood\u2019s giving infrastructure,\u201d according to Director of Development Operations Lisa Careccia.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Donor support from DAFs and other forms of giving fuel the programming and partnerships at the heart of the organization. \u201cBecause our board covers 100% of operating expenses, every dollar goes directly to programs that fuel New Yorkers\u2019 journeys to permanently escape poverty,\u201d says Careccia.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cWe are very conscious of donor intent,\u201d Aronson adds. Robin Hood is \u201cvery flexible and responsive to what their interests are,\u201d whether that\u2019s supporting New Yorker\u2019s basic needs, funding academic research, piloting and scaling targeted interventions or supporting on-the-ground organizations across the city.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cWe\u2019re talking about our neighbors in need,\u201d Aronson says, adding, \u201cThat motivation goes into our grantmaking and fundraising.
