While the effects of the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nptrust.org\/covid-19\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">COVID-19 pandemic<\/a> continue, this is the beginning of an important time of year\u2014one when we can simultaneously reflect on what we\u2019re grateful for and lend a helping hand to those in need.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Your <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nptrust.org\/what-is-a-donor-advised-fund\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">donor-advised fund (DAF) <\/a>is a simple and efficient way to put charitable giving at the top of your list this season. Here are five ways to expand your philanthropic efforts as 2021 comes to a close:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:40px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">1. Consider What Inspires You<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Whether your cause is <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nptrust.org\/philanthropic-resources\/philanthropist\/can-i-use-my-daf-for-that-scholarships-edition\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">access to higher education<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nptrust.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/06\/Making-the-American-Dream-Real-for-All.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">racial justice and equity<\/a> or <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nptrust.org\/philanthropic-resources\/philanthropist\/as-financial-assistance-programs-expire-philanthropy-can-help-maintain-funding-momentum-for-human-services\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">vital human services organizations like food pantries and shelters<\/a>, there\u2019s no better time than now to support the groups that inspire you. Think of the organizations, both worldwide and in your community, that have made a difference this past year. Their work is far from over. As the philanthropic and nonprofit landscape continues to change, nonprofits will need resources to adapt. The causes you care about will have new challenges as they enter 2022. You can help them prepare to deliver on their mission, no matter what.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:40px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">2. Think Outside of Your Philanthropic Box<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">In addition to giving to your \u201cgo-to\u201d organizations and causes, why not explore some new charitable territory this year? Because of the ongoing COVID-19 crisis, resources are still urgently needed when it comes to medical equipment, PPE and basic supplies\u2014<a href=\"https:\/\/www.nptrust.org\/philanthropic-resources\/philanthropist\/how-philanthropy-can-still-make-a-difference-in-the-global-covid-19-pandemic\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">especially internationally<\/a>. Additionally, in the U.S., the pandemic\u2019s economic ripple effect has greatly impacted <a href=\"https:\/\/philanthropynetwork.org\/news\/giving-usa-2021-year-unprecedented-events-and-challenges-charitable-giving-reached-record-47144\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">arts, culture and humanities-based organizations<\/a>, which saw a noticeable decline in overall fundraising revenue. Our world may never be the same, but by providing funds to the organizations most in need we can help make up for those losses.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Additionally, ask about your friends\u2019 and family\u2019s philanthropic priorities. A donation in their name to a favorite organization is a fantastic way to celebrate the holidays and honor a loved one. You\u2019ll likely learn something new along the way, too.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:40px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">3. Give Early<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">November and December are busy months for charities. Nonprofits know that a sizable chunk of giving still occurs around the holidays, so you&#8217;ll likely begin to see fundraising appeals accumulate in your inbox. One way you can help lighten the logistical burdens on your favorite nonprofits is to give early. Grants made earlier in the fall both help organizations meet their year-end goals ahead of schedule and allow you more time for family and togetherness.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:40px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">4. Keep Year-End Grantmaking Deadlines in Mind<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">With the hustle and bustle of the holidays, it\u2019s far too easy to let deadlines sneak up on you. That\u2019s why you\u2019ll want to be sure to set a reminder when it comes to meeting the year-end grantmaking deadlines for 2021. Because of the large volume of year-end giving, gifts from donor-advised funds do take some time to process. The end of the calendar year is a perfect time to replenish your DAF to fuel next year\u2019s giving\u2014and years to come.
